Independent news publication Mill.org.uk has been admitted to the Information Economy Alliance and may now display the Alliance’s accredited member badge.
The Information Economy Alliance, an initiative operated by SCRIBE, has confirmed Mill.org.uk as an accredited member of its network of independent news services.
The Alliance was created to support serious independent publications operating outside the largest mainstream media institutions by improving access to sources, strengthening cooperation between publishers and providing a recognisable form of institutional accreditation.
As an accredited member, Mill.org.uk may now display the official Information Economy Alliance accreditation badge and will be listed as part of the Alliance’s network of recognised independent publications.
Membership also gives Mill.org.uk access to relevant information, source opportunities and material presented directly to the Information Economy Alliance or SCRIBE, including material that may in some circumstances be made available specifically or initially to Alliance members.
Mill.org.uk also receives honorary institutional membership in SCRIBE, the Social Centre for Research for Inclusive, Better and Equal Life.
The Information Economy Alliance accreditation is awarded selectively. It is intended to recognise independent publications that demonstrate a serious editorial purpose, an established publishing function and compatibility with the Alliance’s principles.
Accreditation does not mean that the Alliance or SCRIBE endorses every article or opinion published by a member. Member publications remain editorially independent and responsible for their own reporting, editorial decisions and legal obligations.
The Information Economy Alliance press office said:
“Independent publications are an important part of the modern information environment. They can provide specialist reporting, investigate subjects that receive little sustained attention elsewhere and give communities and ideas routes into public discussion that would otherwise be unavailable.
“Mill.org.uk is now part of the Information Economy Alliance, and we are pleased to recognise it as an accredited independent news service.”
The Information Economy Alliance is administered by SCRIBE and exists to make serious independent publications easier for sources, readers and other organisations to identify, approach and work with.
